Get Ready for DancEUA: Ukrainian Artists Take the Stage at Vitlycke This October

3 min read

The event DancEUA: More than ever, taking place on October 23 and 24, 2026, at the Vitlycke Centre for Performing Arts in Sweden, explores themes of resistance, vulnerability, and humanity, reflecting on memory, violence, and the strength found in both the body and the community.

This Ukrainian dance platform is organized as part of DancEUA (Contemporary Resilience: Reinventing Dance in Ukraine), a Creative Europe project (2025–2027). The project was created in collaboration with international partners: Studio Contemporary Dance Company – SSP (Croatia), Central Europe Dance Theatre – CEDT (Hungary), M Studio (Romania), Vitlycke – CPA (Sweden), and UA Contemporary Dance Platform (Ukraine), aiming to empower Ukrainian contemporary dance through creativity, connection, and resilience.

Expect two evenings of powerful performances, artist talks, and musical acts.

Event Programme

Friday, October 23, 2026 (from 18:00)

  • COSSACHKA (Performance)

    Authors: Julia Lopata, Gala Pekha

An ambient audio-choreographic odyssey that delves into the depths of women’s resilience. Brought to life by an independent collective of female dancers, musicians, and visual artists from Ukraine, this performance explores the collective experience of womanhood forged in the fires of war. The title evokes the legend of the Amazons, women warriors who once roamed the lands of contemporary Ukraine. The production weaves together contemporary dance, live singing, and live electronic music, offering a poetic perspective on preserving identity amidst catastrophe.

  • Break & Film Screenings

During the break, there will be video projections of Ukrainian dance films as part of the Let The Body Speak project.

  • ANNIHILATION (Performance)

    Author: Yaroslav Kainar

In this solo performance, Yaroslav Kainar enters a special state where he perceives the most invisible vibrations of the outside world. His body becomes an archiving substance that responds fragilely and gracefully to every impulse—sound, light, and vibration—turning the scientific term of annihilation into an irreversible process of dance art.

Saturday, October 24, 2026 (from 18:00)

  • MAZE WITHOUT A MINOTAUR (Performance)

    Author: Mariia Bakalo

A journey fragmented by reflections, stories, and testimonies of Russian crimes against humanity. Using the Greek myth of the Minotaur as a symbol of the ongoing violence perpetrated against Ukraine, the artist leads the audience through a participatory, immersive performance. (Note: The work contains potentially triggering images, documentary video, and sound materials of military forces).

  • Memory House (Concert)

    Performer: Polina Pohozha (Piano)

After the break, the program continues with a controlled improvisational piece shaped from Polina’s own sound memories—fragments of places, voices, gestures, and textures. In the performance, these memories are revisited and transformed through a form that is never completely fixed.

After the performances on both evenings, the audience is invited to join the artists for a post-show talk to openly discuss their work and inspiration. A bar serving non-alcoholic drinks and snacks will be open during the breaks.
